Baanes, patrikios, magistros and komes of the exkoubitou, 8th century. Seal (Lead, 31 mm, 23.65 g, 12 h). Large cruciform monogram ΘЄOTOKЄ BOHΘЄI; in quadrants, TⲰ - Δ૪/ΛⲰ C૪ ("Mother of God, help your servant"). Rev. [RA]A/NH ΠATPI/KIⲰ MAΓICTP/Ⲱ S KOMITH / TOV ЄΞKOV/BITOV in six lines. Cheynet, Istanbul 2.185. Idem, Kofopoulos 2.196. (Correcting earlier editions Berlin II 307, DO Seals III 81.1 and Zacos/Veglery 3212.). A large early Byzantine seal of a high-ranking military official. Good very fine.
